The knowledge and experience we have gained within the not for profit sector from having been associated with some of our school clients for in excess of 40 years means that we are able to offer guidance and assistance to any school governing body considering changing to academy status. We are aware from our vast experience that taking charge of finances is not something that appeals to everyone and also that contemplating changes in authority is not an easy subject to come to terms with.

We have the knowledge and experience to deal with every aspect of converting to an academy, from the very starting point of considering the idea; through the consultation process with staff, parents’ students and the local community; to formation of the charitable company as required when converting. Once the academy is up and running, we can assist with preparation of accounts and audits, payroll services and company secretarial services; and will ensure that you are fully compliant with your obligations to both Companies House and the Charities Commission and will assist in meeting all the requirements of the Education and Skills Funding Authority (ESFA). Register an interest in accountancy services for schools/academies.

We operate a BACS approved payroll bureau in house and can offer book keeping services at discounted rates.

The value this service brings to you is that by allowing us to take care of the financial aspects of running your school, you are able to focus on the day to day issues.

Stewart Martin and his team are also able to provide specific expertise and experience both from general accounting aspect and in particular with regard to auditing.  Stewart is also a Governor at a local school and therefore has first hand experience of the processes involved.

If you would like the firm to be included in your tender process, or you require a quote for any services related to becoming an academy, even if it is only to quote for your payroll, please call Stewart Martin or Tom York.  Alternatively you can make direct contact.

What our clients say about us

"Our Multi-Academy Trust has been using Edmund Carr as our accountants for 3 financial years now. They work effectively alongside our centralised Finance and HR team and audit runs smoothly and efficiently. Stephen and his team are very knowledgeable and talk all decisions through with us in an easy to understand way. They always provide us with a very high standard of service and all queries are answered professionally and quickly. We feel very fortunate to have found a practice that works so well with us and in such a flexible and customer friendly way that exactly matches our needs."

Nicola Elliott - Finance and Facilities Manager
Connected Learning MAT

"We have been working with Edmund Carr and their team of accountants since our multi academy trust was set up in early 2014. We were immediately impressed with their professionalism but more importantly awareness of the academy and multi academy system. As our trust has grown over the past three years so have the expertise that Edmund Carr offer us. We regularly ask questions and seek advice and always receive a timely, well considered response which supports our trust and academies. During the audit process our academies each receive a tailored visit which feels personal and the process is carried out with us and not to us. This is critical if the audit process is to be smooth and transparent. All communication, either by email, phone call or visit is purposeful and Edmund Carr ensure that, as educationalists, we understand the nuances of accountancy in a friendly and considered way. We are extremely grateful to Stewart and Tom and their team for the invaluable support and fantastic service that we have received over the past three years."

Joe Figg - CEO
The Eveleigh LINK Academy Trust

"Our school have been using Edmund Carr for more than three years now. The team are professional and always provide prompt and helpful advice to any questions I raise. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their customer service is excellent. I have also been very impressed with the way our annual audit has been carried out so efficiently".

Joanne Madders - Finance Manager
Runwell Community Primary School

"I would like to thank both yourself and Nina for your calm, courteous and pleasant approach to the audit.  As an academy there have been many changes to the finances with regard to reporting and other requirements and you have been both supportive and responsive to our needs not only throughout the audit but throughout the year.  We could not have managed the transition between school and academy without your expertise and help.  So once again thank you for your help and we look forward to working with you next year".
